Who Actually Needs These
Look, under-cupboard lights are one of those small quality-of-life things that sound a bit naff until you actually have them. You know the scene: 11pm, you don't want to blast the main kitchen light, you're just after a glass of water or a sneaky biscuit. Motion sensor kicks in, job done. That's the pitch here, and it's a reasonable one.
These are battery-free in the sense that they recharge via USB, which matters. Disposable battery lights in this category are a faff and end up costing more over time. Magnetic backing means no drilling, no screws, just stick the plate and go. For renters especially, that's genuinely useful.
What You're Actually Getting
Forty LEDs per strip is decent for the price. The dimmable feature is a nice touch, though don't expect the kind of precision you'd get from a proper smart light setup. It's more "bright or less bright" than a silky smooth slider. The motion sensor range seems adequate for a kitchen counter or wardrobe, not massive, but it doesn't need to be.
My honest reservation: build quality at this price point is always a bit of a lottery. The magnetic mount could loosen over time depending on the surface. Worth keeping that in mind.
Who Should Skip It
If you want something that looks sleek in a fitted kitchen or need serious, consistent illumination for actual task lighting, these probably aren't it. But for a dark hallway cupboard, a wardrobe, or just adding a bit of ambient sense to a kitchen corner, two packs for under a tenner is not half bad at all.
