A build for the patient type
The Botanicals range from LEGO is a bit of an odd corner of the catalogue. Not really for kids, not quite a display centrepiece either. The Chrysanthemum sits in that in-between space, and personally, I think that's where it earns its keep.
Picture it: a slow Sunday afternoon, cup of tea going cold on the side, and you're snapping together delicate little petal layers in pale yellow and green. It's genuinely meditative. Not exciting in the way a Technic set is, but satisfying in a completely different register. The kind of build where you actually notice yourself slowing down.
Who this is actually for
This one is for adults who like something tactile on their desk, or anyone who wants a thoughtful gift that isn't a candle or a bath set. If you've got a mate who's into ikebana or just enjoys a bit of botanical art, this lands well.
It's not for young kids. The pieces are small and fiddly, and the finished model isn't robust enough to survive being played with. It's a display piece, full stop.
The honest reservation
At around thirteen quid, you're not getting a massive build. The piece count is modest, and experienced LEGO builders will fly through it in under an hour. For a gift it feels well-priced, but if you're buying it for yourself expecting a proper long evening project, you might feel a bit short-changed. Not half bad, just not a lot of it.
