The smell: let's get that out of the way
Old Spice Captain smells like someone bottled a nautical fantasy circa 1987 and then made it slightly less terrifying. It's woody, a bit sharp, fades reasonably quickly. My mate Dave uses this stuff religiously and his bathroom always smells like a ship's cabin. Not unpleasant. Not subtle either.
Personally, I think it sits somewhere between proper grown-up and corner-shop cologne. Which is fine. It's shower gel, not a night out.
The 2-in-1 question
Look, 2-in-1 shower gel and shampoo products get a bad reputation, and sometimes that's fair. This one is decent enough for short hair or a quick rinse-and-go morning. If you've got long hair or a fussy scalp, honestly, skip it. It's not going to replace a proper shampoo for that crowd.
But for the bloke who wants one bottle doing everything before a 7am commute? Spot on.
Is the 1000ml size actually useful?
A litre lasts a good while if you're not going overboard. The bottle is a bit of a unit in the shower though, takes up space, and the cap design is nothing special. No complaints about value for what you're getting.
At the Subscribe and Save price that's been doing the rounds, this is not half bad at all. The HotUKDeals community gave it nearly 800 degrees of heat, which usually means people actually bought it and weren't moaning afterwards.
Not for everyone. If you hate anything that smells remotely "old school masculine", walk on. But if you're unbothered by that, it's a solid, cheap, no-nonsense daily wash.
