What you're actually getting
At this price, you're not buying premium audio. Let's be clear about that upfront. The Soundcore A30i are small, light earbuds with active noise cancelling built in, and for under sixteen quid, that's already a bit of a head-scratcher. The ANC isn't going to compete with Sony or Bose, but on a commute with low rumble and background chatter, it does noticeably take the edge off. Sat on a bus into town last week, they genuinely made the engine drone disappear enough to enjoy a podcast without cranking the volume.
The fit is compact, which is either a win or a problem depending on your ears. Personally I find chunky earbuds uncomfortable after an hour, so the smaller shell is a plus. Battery life is decent for the size, and the case charges them back up without any fuss.
Who these are actually for
If you've been meaning to try ANC earbuds but can't justify spending sixty or eighty quid, this is a spot on entry point. Also good as a backup pair, or something you won't panic about losing on a night out.
Not for audiophiles. Not for anyone who listens to music critically or needs strong call quality in loud environments. The mic is fine for a quiet room, not half bad really, but it's not impressive in wind or noise.
Honestly, at this price point the expectations need to be calibrated. These aren't magic. They're a proper budget option that does what it says, and that's sometimes exactly what you need.
