Who Actually Needs This
If you're someone who bounces between a Mac at home and a Windows PC at work, this drive is a bit of a relief honestly. Most external HDDs make you choose a side, format-wise. The Canvio Flex is exFAT out of the box, so it reads and writes on both without any fiddling. That alone saves a headache.
Also works with smartphones and tablets via USB-C. I plugged mine into an Android phone to offload a few hundred photos from a weekend trip. Worked a treat. Not something you'd do every day, but when you need it, you're glad it's there.
The Honest Bit
Look, it's a spinning hard drive in 2025. Physically, it's a little chunky compared to an SSD, and if you knock it off a desk mid-transfer you'll feel nervous. Transfer speeds are fine for documents, photos, even video files, but don't expect it to feel snappy moving huge folders around. That's just the nature of a mechanical drive at this price point.
At 4TB it's a lot of space though. Proper lot. Enough that most people will never fill it.
Worth It?
For photographers, people doing light video work, or anyone who just wants a big backup drive that plays nicely with every device in the house, this makes a solid case for itself. Not for you if you need speed above all else. But as a reliable, no-drama storage option with broad compatibility, it's not half bad at all.
