The kind of controller you buy with your eyes first
Look, special edition controllers live and die by aesthetics. Nobody's pre-ordering the X25 because they think it'll play Forza better than their current pad. They're doing it because it looks proper good and they know stock will evaporate faster than a bank holiday weekend.
The X25 is a standard Xbox Wireless Controller underneath all the cosmetic flair. Same layout, same textured grip zones, same hybrid d-pad that's been solid for a few years now. If you've used any recent Xbox pad, you already know the feel: comfortable after a long session, decent build quality, no nasty surprises.
Who this actually makes sense for
Collectors, obviously. People who've been after a second controller and don't want a boring black one. Gift-buyers who want something that looks considered without spending silly money on a custom design.
Who it's not for: anyone expecting a performance upgrade. There isn't one. This is purely cosmetic. If your current controller works fine, you don't need this.
One honest reservation
Pre-ordering a controller you can't hold yet is a mild act of faith. Colourways sometimes look different on screen than in your hand under actual lighting. I've been caught out before, bought a controller that looked electric blue online and arrived looking like a rainy Tuesday in Swindon.
At full price with no discount applied, it's not a bargain so much as a calculated decision. If the X25 colourway genuinely speaks to you, go for it. If you're on the fence, waiting for it to hit shelves before committing seems fair enough.
