Why your current lock might be rubbish
Snap attacks are, unfortunately, a very real thing in the UK. A burglar shoves a screwdriver into your euro cylinder, snaps the front off, and the lock just... opens. Takes seconds. Most budget cylinders fitted by builders offer basically no resistance to this. A mate of mine had his van lock picked in a car park in Sheffield and the locksmith who came out afterwards immediately told him his front door lock was equally useless. That stuck with me.
The Yale P-YS3 is rated 3-star by Sold Secure, which is the standard most insurers and police crime prevention officers actually recommend. Anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-drill. It covers the attacks that matter.
Who this is actually for
This is for anyone with a uPVC or composite door, which is most of the country at this point. If your door already has a multi-point locking system, the cylinder is genuinely the weakest link. Swapping it for something like this is one of the most cost-effective security upgrades you can make to a house.
Personally, I'd say it's not for people who rent and can't modify locks without landlord permission. And if your door frame is in poor nick, no cylinder will save you.
Honestly, the 40:40mm sizing (80mm total) fits the majority of standard UK doors, but measure yours before ordering. The nickel finish is fairly neutral, looks fine on most hardware.
For about the price of a round of drinks, this is one of those purchases that just makes sense.
