Not a port. An actual new game.

Most Switch 2 launch window titles are things you've already played on Switch 1, slightly shinier. Bananza isn't that. It's a ground-up Nintendo exclusive built for the new hardware, which immediately makes it more interesting than half the current library. DK destroys terrain, throws chunks of the environment around, punches through layers of rock. It's tactile in a way that's hard to describe until you've played it. My nephew spent twenty minutes just smashing walls before remembering there was a level to complete.

Who this is actually for

If you've got kids between about six and twelve, this is probably the easiest Switch 2 purchase you'll make. It's colourful, forgiving, and endlessly satisfying to mess about in. But honestly, it's not just for the young ones. If you liked Odyssey's sense of exploration and you want something that feels like Nintendo actually trying, this scratches that itch.

It's not for you if you want a challenge. The difficulty is gentle, almost to a fault. Serious platformer fans might find it a bit breezy.

The price question

No discount here, this is full RRP at £44.99. So you're not getting a bargain, you're deciding whether a full-price Nintendo exclusive is worth it. For a first-party title on a new platform, that's fairly standard. The community heat suggests stock is moving quickly, which tracks with how these Nintendo launches usually go. If you're on the fence, the 641-degree heat on HotUKDeals is at least a sign that plenty of people have already decided it is.
