What you're actually getting
Fry's Peppermint Cream is not trying to be anything fancy. It's dark chocolate, cool peppermint fondant inside, and absolutely nothing else going on. The bar snaps cleanly, the mint hits properly without being toothpaste-aggressive, and the chocolate is just bitter enough to keep it from being sickly. Three bars at this price is genuinely hard to argue with.
I remember finding one of these at the bottom of a Christmas selection box as a kid and thinking it was the boring adult option. Now I actively seek them out. Funny how that works.
Who this is actually for
If you like After Eight but want something with a bit more substance, this is your bar. The fondant is denser, the chocolate has more presence, and it feels less like a post-dinner mint and more like an actual chocolate. Good with a strong cup of tea, for what it's worth.
Who it's not for: anyone expecting milk chocolate sweetness. The dark chocolate here is real and noticeable. Kids tend to pull a face. Also not ideal if you're somehow averse to mint, which feels obvious but worth saying.
The one reservation
Honestly, three bars sounds like a lot until you realise each one is 49g. Not a massive haul. And the Subscribe and Save price drops it a bit further, which is only worth doing if you know you'll actually want them regularly. Stocking up on peppermint cream bars on repeat delivery is a very specific personality type. No judgement though.
