What you're actually getting

HIGH5 ZERO are fizzy electrolyte tablets. No sugar, no calories worth mentioning, just sodium, magnesium, calcium and a bit of vitamin C dropped into your water bottle. Pop one in, wait thirty seconds, drink. That's the whole routine.

I started using these during longer runs last summer when plain water stopped feeling like enough but I couldn't face another sticky, syrup-thick gel drink. The citrus flavour is genuinely refreshing, not that fake-lemon agony you get from cheaper tabs. Berry Burst is decent too. A couple of the others taste a bit like dissolved paracetamol, if I'm being honest.

Who this is actually for

Properly useful if you:

  • run, cycle or sweat heavily for over an hour
  • travel a lot and want a lightweight hydration option
  • find sports drinks too sweet or too calorie-heavy

Not for you if you're expecting some performance miracle. These won't make you faster or stronger. They just stop you feeling rubbish mid-effort from dehydration. That's a modest claim, but it's a real one.

The value angle

At around £3.22 a tube with Subscribe and Save, that's roughly 16p a tablet. For context, a bottle of Lucozade Sport costs more than a whole tube of these. The Prime Student discount stacks on top, which makes it even more of a no-brainer for anyone who qualifies.

My only reservation: twenty tablets goes faster than you'd think if you're training regularly. Stock up while the price holds.
