The bar itself

Look, if you've had a Nature Valley bar before, you know the drill. That first snap releases a small avalanche of oat crumble onto your lap, your desk, occasionally a colleague. The chocolate version leans sweeter than the honey-and-oat original, but the texture is the same: properly crunchy, a bit coarse, satisfying in a way that a soft cereal bar just isn't. Not fancy. Not pretending to be.

I keep a few in my work bag for the commute days when I've skipped breakfast and need something that won't make me feel worse. These do that job well.

Who this is actually for

A 36-pack only makes sense if you burn through these regularly. Family with kids doing school runs, someone who batch-packs lunches, a small office that's given up on the biscuit tin. If you're buying it for yourself and you're a one-bar-a-week type, they'll go stale before you're halfway through.

The chocolate coating is thin, so don't expect a Twix situation. It's more of a hint than a feature.

The value question

At around the price this has been spotted for, you're looking at roughly 15p a bar. Honestly, that's hard to argue with for something that's not just empty sugar. Tesco sells individual packs of two for around 85p most days, so the bulk saving is real.

Reservation: the Subscribe and Save price is sharper, but that locks you into repeat deliveries. Fine if you're certain you'll get through them. A bit annoying if your habits change after month one.
