What Capcom Actually Made Here

Pragmata has had one of the stranger development arcs in recent memory. Announced in 2020 with a moody, cinematic trailer showing a bloke in a space suit, a mysterious girl, and a moon that shouldn't be doing what it's doing. Then: silence. Years of it. So arriving now on PS5, it carries a fair bit of expectation on its shoulders.

The game is a third-person action title set in a near-future dystopia, with tight combat and an atmosphere that leans heavily into that cold, clinical Capcom aesthetic. Think RE Engine doing sci-fi. Visually it's proper striking at times, the kind of thing where you pause and just... look for a second.

Who This Is Actually For

If you liked the pacing of the more recent Resident Evil games or something like Returnal (in terms of mood, not structure), you'll likely get on with this. It rewards patience. The story takes its time and isn't always generous with context.

Honestly, it's not for players who need constant hand-holding or a busy open world. This is a linear, focused experience and that's refreshing, but it will put some people off.

At just under 42 quid with solid community heat behind it, it's not a bargain in the traditional sense. No discount. But for a new PS5 release that isn't bloated to 80 hours, it feels fair. My reservation: we still don't know how long it is. If it clocks in under ten hours, that price stings a bit more.
