The return nobody saw coming
Honestly, when Star Fox dropped as a Switch 2 title, the reaction was somewhere between "finally" and "wait, is this real?" The franchise has been gathering dust since Star Fox Zero in 2016, which, let's be fair, was a bit of a mess with those motion controls. So yes, people are excited. Cautiously, but still.
The pre-order is sitting at just under 42 quid, which is pretty standard for a new Switch 2 release. There's no discount here, let's be clear about that. This isn't a bargain in the traditional sense. What it is, is a way to lock in your copy before the inevitable stock crunch that tends to hit Nintendo exclusives in the first few weeks.
Who this is actually for
If you grew up with the SNES original or spent hours on Star Fox 64, this is almost certainly on your radar already. The community heat on this one is proper high, over 1200 degrees on HotUKDeals, which tells you the nostalgia is doing a lot of lifting.
For newcomers, it's a harder sell sight unseen. Nintendo hasn't shown a huge amount of gameplay yet, and pre-ordering a game you know nothing about is always a bit of a gamble.
My honest reservation: we still don't know enough about the actual content. Is it a full new entry, a remaster, something in between? That matters at 40-odd quid.
If you're a lapsed fan who's been waiting years for Fox McCloud to get a proper outing, this pre-order makes sense. Everyone else, maybe give it a fortnight.
